Step back in time and experience a day in the life of Savonet in 1885
On Sunday, September 27, Christoffelpark invites you to a special Open Day at Savonet, where history comes to life through local stories, traditional crafts, nature, music and cultural heritage.
Discover what daily life at Savonet looked like in the years following the abolition of slavery. Listen to stories connected to the people and families of Savonet, visit the Savonet Museum, experience traditional skills and crafts, and discover how people, nature, work and community were connected.
For one day, step into Savonet in 1885.
Come early, bring your family and discover the stories, traditions and people that shaped Savonet.
What can you experience?
From 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Savonet comes alive with stories, demonstrations, music, nature and cultural heritage.
During the Open Day you can:
- Listen to stories about life and work at Savonet
- Join talks and Oral History sessions with people and families connected to Savonet
- Visit the Savonet Museum
- Watch traditional blacksmith, lime kiln and charcoal kiln demonstrations
- Discover local history through guided activities and Yaya Tours
- Enjoy a music and dance workshop with Elia Isenia
- Visit stands with food, drinks, arts & crafts and educational activities
The cultural and educational program, demonstrations, talks and entrance to the Savonet Museum are free of charge.

Regular entrance fees apply for visitors who would like to climb Christoffel Mountain:
